Long Range Forecast: 'Underworld Awakening,' 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,' 'Red Tails,' and 'Haywire'

Featured Stories - on November 26, 2011 by Phil Contrino

We've added Underworld Awakening, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Red Tails and Haywire to our Long Range Forecast. Underworld Awakening, Red Tails and Haywire all open on January 20, and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close will expand wide that day.

The Underworld franchise may not be massive earner, but it is reliable. 2009's Underworld: Rise of the Lycans opened to $20.8 million domestically before finishing with $45 million. We think that Awakening has a shot at topping it by a slight margin.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is garnering plenty of Oscar buzz. The Warner Bros. release should become a must-see during awards season as long as mainstream audiences aren't afraid to sit down with a film that uses 9/11 as a driving force.

Red Tails will benefit quite a bit from the fact George Lucas is the producer. Expect the action flick to do very well with African-American moviegoers.

Haywire finds director Steven Soderbergh entering pure action mode. With Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor and Channing Tatum filling out the supporting cast, this one could turn into something of a sleeper hit.
