When Dumb and Dumber To opens this November, it will be nearly twenty years since the original film began its theatrical run. Is the magic still there? Will expectations be so high after all this time that a new film couldn't possibly live up to them? This week BoxOffice takes a look at the commercial potential of the Universal release.

Dumb and Dumber To
(Universal)

PROS:

- The film's theatrical trailer hits all the right notes. There was a noticeable wave of Facebook and Twitter activity after its release.
- Raunchy comedies can play quite well as counter-programming during the fall season. For proof, look no further than Jackass: Bad Grandpa from last year.
- The built-in fanbase that comes with a movie like this is staggering.

CONS:

- Remember how many negative reactions there were to Anchorman 2 after a huge gap between films? We're worried the same thing could happen with Dumb and Dumber To
- Jim Carrey is not nearly the draw he once was.
