With Unfriended, Universal may revolutionize the horror genre by setting a film largely on the Internet. Will horror junkies show up or will the movie turn into a punchline? This week we take a closer look at the film's prospects.

Unfriended
(Universal)

PROS:

- Online reactions to the first trailer are very positive. Twitter activity is particularly strong.
- The horror genre is due for a surge now that the Paranormal Activity franchise is slowing down.
- Universal's marketing muscle is formidable, especially when it comes to building momentum online.

CONS:

- The horror genre inspires a lot of snark and this one is sure to be picked on a bit.
- The impact of Furious 7 is going to be hard to shake.
