Universal enters the world of spin-offs with July's Minions. Will the animated flick be as popular as Despicable Me 2 or will the Minions strain under the weight of carrying their own film? This week BoxOffice takes a closer look at the commercial potential.

Minions
(Universal)

PROS:

- Despicable Me 2 ended up just shy of $1 billion globally, so the property is alive and well.
- The Minions walked away with both of the other films. Their popularity is not in doubt.
- This will be a no-brainer for families with young children.

CONS:

- The spin-off genre is full of failures.
- It's impossible that giving the Minions their own movie could be too much of a good thing.

Check out our predictions for this film and others in the table below.
