on March 22, 2012
WASHINGTON D.C. -- Diego Boneta will receive the "CinemaCon Rising Star of 2012 Award," it was announced today by the convention's managing director, Mitch Neuhauser. CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), the largest and most important gathering of cinema owners and operators from around the world, will be held April 23 - 26, 2012 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Boneta will be presented with this special honor at the "CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards" ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, April 26, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.
"How exciting to think that Diego Boneta's first film role, in this summer's musical adventure "Rock of Ages," will see him share the screen with the likes of Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Alec Baldwin!" noted Neuhauser. "We can't wait to see him in the film and to see what the future holds for this talented young man. CinemaCon is thrilled to honor him as its Rising Star of 2012."
Boneta, under the direction of Adam Shankman, will make his big screen debut in New Line Cinema's feature film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical "Rock of Ages," to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on June 15, 2012. With an all-star lineup, including Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise, "Rock of Ages" tells the story of small-town girl Sherrie and city-boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n' roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake and more.
A native of Mexico City, Boneta has had a very successful career in Latin America as a singer and actor, earning two Latin GRAMMY nominations and selling multiple gold and platinum records in Latin America and Spain. He has appeared on the small screen on the ABC Family hit "Pretty Little Liars" and the CW's "90210," and can be seen soon in the new MTV show "Underemployed."
