GLOBAL: 'G.I. Joe' Has Biggest Overseas Opening of 2013 with $80.3 Million

G.I. Joe: Retaliation posted the biggest overseas opening of the year as it grossed $80.3 million in 53 territories, including an $11 million performance in Russia. The global cume is $132 million. The film nearly doubled the opening weekend gross of its predecessor, G.I. Joe: the Rise of Cobra, in the same number of territories. G.I. Joe: Retaliation can expect to add to its performance with upcoming openings in China and Japan. The film will expand to six more countries next week.
The Croods kept up with a strong performance after last weekend's overseas premiere. The animated film grossed $52.5 million in 59 markets to reach a $140.5 million total. The global cume is $229.1 million.
Oz: The Great and Powerful grossed another $22.2 million overseas during the holiday weekend. The overseas total for the Disney film is $214 million, with a global cume of $412.3 million.
Jack the Giant Slayer earned a $96.4 million overseas total this weekend after making $25.2 million over the weekend. The global total is $157.7 million.
Another Bruce Willis action film in release, A Good Day to Die Hard, earned $3.6 million in 18 territories. The overseas total is $230.1 million, representing the majority of the $296.6 million global cume.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters added $3.3 million in 31 markets this weekend, $1 million of that coming from its opening in Venezuela. The overseas total is $161.2 million. The global cume is $216.4 million.
Identity Thief continued its slow roll out, opening in Austria, Belgium, Germany, and German-Switzerland. The film grossed $5.5 million in 25 territories this weekend for a $16.6 million overseas total. The global cume is $145.4 million.
Mama had a hold-over weekend overseas, waiting to expand to Brazil, Israel, Norway, and Sweden next weekend. It grossed $2 million in 31 territories, with 14 upcoming openings over the next few months. The overseas total stands at $55.4 million.The global cume is $126.9
