WALT DISNEY STUDIOS ANNOUNCES DOMESTIC, INTERNATIONAL, AND GLOBAL RECORD-SETTING YEAR OF $4.73 BILLION

January 2nd Update: Disney sends along the below updated figures for 2013:

Record-breaking year for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

· Disney broke its domestic, international, and global annual box office records and surpassed $4B in global box office for the first time in its history with a final gross of over $4.73B.

· Marvel's Iron Man 3, which had the #2 domestic opening of all time, was the year's #1 film and the #5 film of all time with $1.215B.

· Five 2013 Disney releases grossed more than $200M domestically. All five debuted with more than $75M, and four of them rank in the year's top 10 openings, including Iron Man 3 at #1.

Domestic - $1.719B (1/2/13-1/1/14)

First studio to pass $1B this year (reached on 7/12); eighth consecutive year reaching this threshold

Surpassed $1.5B in company record 340 days (previous record was 346 in 2003)

Surpassed 2012's $1.547B on 12/14 for a new company record

2013 box office is +11% above previous best year (2012)

In 2013, the studio broke its previous domestic, international, and global box office records and surpassed $4 billion globally for the first time ever. Global box office total through December 30 is an estimated $4.7 billion.
