CHINA: 'Need for Speed' Leads the Pack with $21M Debut
on March 18, 2014
Need for Speed opened day-and-date with North America in 40 overseas territories, with China bringing in the weekend's top result. A $21.09 million opening weekend launched the racing video game adaptation to first place in the market, easily over taking limited competition from fellow opener Homefront.
RoboCop edged closer to the $50 million mark in China, the only market where the film is being screened in 3D. A $7.11 million week's haul put the film at $49.71 million, striking distance from the $56.5 million North American cume.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug added $3.67 million during the week to reach a $74.73 million cume in the market.
