The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is now in release across all global territories and celebrated the biggest expansion in its run with a $116 million weekend overseas, including $6.75 million from IMAX screens. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has grossed a total of $277 million after three weekends of release overseas, with $15.7 million of that figure coming from IMAX.
Spidey claimed the biggest opening weekend of all time for a Hollywood title in India with a $6.5 million debut. The previous record holder was its franchise predecessor, The Amazing Spider-Man, which took a $5.6 million bow from India. The Indian premiere of the new Spider-Man film was more than twice the openings of The Avengers and Spider-Man 3, and more than three times the opening gross of Captain America 2 and Thor 2.
The Spider-Man sequel took a big single-day debut in China with a $10.4 million tally from Sunday alone. Sunday was a workday in China, making the Spidey sequel the biggest opener of all time for a workday. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 recorded the biggest ever screen count for a new release in China, where it opened across 11,002 screens.
The superhero sequel took a $10.5 million opening in Brazil, a 76% improvement over the debut of its immediate predecessor. Spidey also registered a $10.6 million bow in France, 32% ahead of the franchise’s previous installment.
Other top openings for the latest Spider-Man sequel include a $5.6 million bow in the Philippines, $4.6 million from Malaysia, $43.5 million from Singapore, $2.6 million from Thailand, $2.4 million from the United Arab Emirates, $2.2 million from Colombia, $1.9 million from Central America, $1.4 million from Peru, and $1.3 million from Chile.

Rio 2 took a $24.5 million weekend from 8,869 screens in 89 overseas markets. The animated sequel’s overseas total is now up to $289.1 million. The film should cross the $400 million global mark by next weekend after finishing its latest frame with $395.6 million worldwide.
The Other Woman collected $19.5 million from 4,654 screens in 49 markets. The comedy is now up to $45.8 million overseas and $93.1 million worldwide, a rare even split between North America and the rest of the world for a new comedy at the box office. Germany brought in $4.4 million in its opening weekend, while Russia enjoyed a $2.3 million debut, and Mexico posted a $1.1 million bow.
Frozen is the #6 film among the highest grossers of all time at the global box office and the highest grossing animated film of all time overseas. The Disney release took $11.1 million in its 24th weekend of release, bringing its overseas total up to $768.9 million and its global cume to $1.169 billion.
Frozen is the top film in Japan for the eighth consecutive weekend, where it has already grossed a blockbuster sum of $143.2 million. Other top markets for the film include South Korea ($76.9M), the UK ($65.2M), China ($8.7M), and Germany ($48.2M).
Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been able to weather the Spider-Man 2 storm well over the last three weeks. The Captain added $10 million in its latest overseas frame, bringing its total outside of North America up to $442.7 million. The sequel has now grossed a total of $679.8 million worldwide.
The Captain America sequel has now passed the total global box office cume for Captain America ($371M), Thor ($449M), Iron Man ($585M), Iron Man 2 ($624M) and Thor: The Dark World ($644M).
Top markets for the film include China ($115.8M), UK ($30.9M), South Korea ($30.9M), Brazil ($25.6M), and Mexico (25.2M).
Divergent crossed the $100 million mark overseas after scoring a $9.3 million weekend from 75 markets. The film enjoyed a #2 debut in Spain with a $2.2 million tally (including previews) from 335 screens. The film’s global total is up to $250.2 million
Noah sailed to a $6.6 million take from 3,908 locations in 54 territories during its 7th weekend of release overseas. The Biblical epic has now grossed a total of $233.4 million outside of North America and $332.4 million worldwide.
The Grand Budapest Hotel welcomed $3.55 million from 1,469 screens in 29 overseas markets this weekend. The Wes Anderson film has now grossed a total of $89.1 million overseas and $140.6 million worldwide.
Ocho Apellidos Vascos is a couple of strong weekends away from becoming the most successful film of all time across all categories at the Spanish box office. The Spanish comedy took the #1 spot in its home country for the eighth consecutive weekend after taking in $2.9 million at 331 dates. The record for most consecutive #1 finishes in Spain is currently held by Avatar and Titanic with 9. Ocho Apellidos Vascos is the highest grossing domestic film of all time with a $69.6 million cume. It is the second highest grossing release among all films in the country, behind Avatar.
Pompeii reached the UK nabbed a $1.8 million debut, helping it bring in $2.9 million from 17 markets over the weekend and bringing its overseas total up to $71.4 million. Pompeii> has grossed $94.6 million worldwide.
French comedy Babysitting took fifth place in France with a $2.7 million take from 280 dates to reach an $11.4 million 19-day total in its home market.
Ride Along took $1.1 million from 380 dates in 10 territories to reach an overseas total of $18.6 million. The comedy has grossed $152.8 million globally.
