GLOBAL: 'Edge of Tomorrow' Leads the Overseas Box Office, Reaches $140.1M Global Cume Following North American Release

Edge of Tomorrow took strong openings from China, South Korea, and Russia to bring in a total of $82 million from over 19,000 screens in 63 markets during its latest weekend overseas. The Tom Cruise sci-fi flick is now up to $111 million outside of North America and has grossed $140.1 million worldwide.
China brought in $25 million from 6,762 during its opening weekend, claiming 57% of the market share for the #1 spot in the country. South Korea wasn't far behind with a $16.6 million cume from 801 screens. Russia posted Tom Cruise's biggest opening weekend of all time in the market with $8.6 million from 1,645 screens. New openers were rounded out by France, where the film claimed $3.2 million from 585 screens, while Mexico posted a solid $3.1 million take from over 1,300 screens and Australia brought in $3.1 million from 477 screens. The UK posted a $2.2 million hold to finish its second weekend with a $7.3 million cume. Edge of Tomorrow expands to Japan on July 4.
Maleficent added $59.7 million from 52 markets in its second weekend overseas, bringing the live-action Disney film's overseas total up to $208.1 million after only two frames. Mexico is leading the overseas markets with a $30 million cume, double the lifetime gross of Oz: The Great and Powerful in the market. Other top performers for the film include Russia ($24.1M), UK ($18.8M), Brazil ($12.8M), and Italy ($12.2M).
Maleficent is Angelina Jolie's third highest grossing film of all time at the overseas box office, trailing only Mr. and Mrs. Smith ($292M) and The Tourist ($211M). It is on track to pass both those titles later in its run with upcoming releases scheduled for China (June 20) and Japan (July 4). Maleficnet has grossed a total of $335.47 million worldwide.
X-Men: Days of Future Past put up another $42.1 million from 16,080 screens in 74 markets to reach an overseas cume of $422.1 million. The film has now grossed $611.2 million worldwide.
China gave the X-Men a $7.5 million weekend from 3,460 screens to reach a $104.4 million market cume, the third highest Fox title in the market behind Avatar and Titanic.
The Fault in Our Stars took a $17.1 million debut overseas this wekeend. The film finished its day-and-date bow with $65.2 million globally.
A Million Ways to Die in the West opened in 16 new territories and put up another $6.4 million at 2,700 dates in a total of 37 territories to see its overseas cume rise to $20 million. The Seth MacFarlane comedy expands to 21 more territories in the coming months. The film has grossed a worldwide total of $50.1 million.
Godzilla added $5.4 million from over 5,000 screens in 63 markets to reach a $208.7 million overseas cume. The monster movie will open in China on June 14 and Japan on July 24.
Frozen is the #1 film in Japan for the 13th consecutive weekend. The animated film is Disney's highest-grossing release of all time in the market with $218.3 million and is the #2 western movie of all time in the market behind Titanic. Frozen has grossed a total of $844.4 million overseas and $1.245 billion worldwide.
Neighbors brought in $3.6 million at 2,400 dates in 38 territories over the weekend. The comedy has grossed a total of $223.4 million worldwide and will expand to 17 additional territories in the coming months.
Rio 2 added $2.5 million from 1,860 screens in 29 markets to reach an overseas total of $343 million. The animated sequel has grossed $468.6 million worldwide.
The Other Woman colleted another $1 million from 626 screens in 24 markets, reaching a $95.3 million total overeseas and $177.5 million global cume.
