GLOBAL: 'The Maze Runner' Claims $81.5M Debut; 'Lucy' Crosses $250M Overseas

The YA adaptation scored a $37.6 million weekend from 50 markets, reaching a $49 million overseas cume in its second weekend of release outside of North America. The film’s global haul now stands at $81.5 million. IMAX screenings accounted for $1.8 million from 119 locations, a September record for a 2D title. The $5.1 million global IMAX tally also holds the same record. The Maze Runner expands to 14 additional markets next weekend.

Lucy added $13 million outside of North America this weekend, bringing its overseas cume up to $253 million. The film has grossed a total of $377.8 million globally.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes reached Japan, its final overseas market, this weekend, where it notched a $3.7 million debut from 712 screens. The film posted an $8.1 million weekend overseas and has already grossed a total of $476.3 million outside of North America. The weekend’s $3.5 million hold in China lifted it to a $103 million cume in the market. Dawn has grossed $681.5 million globally.

Sex Tape uncovered $7.6 million from 52 markets to reach a $70.5 million overseas cume. The raunchy comedy has grossed $108.9 million worldwide.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brought in $7.3 million from 49 territories, bringing the overseas total up to $148.3 million. A #1 opening in Italy netted $2.3 million from 387 locations, while a strong $2.1 million hold in Australian shot the local cume to $8.9 million in the market. The Turtles have grossed $333.3 million worldwide with key markets like Germany, Spain, Japan, and China left on the schedule.

Hercules took in $5.2 million from 31 territories to reach a $146.9 million overseas cume. The film has grossed $218.9 million worldwide with a late October expansion scheduled for China and Japan.

Guardians of the Galaxy passed the lifetime overseas and global cume of Iron Man 2 this weekend, registering a $318.6 million total outside of North America and a $632.3 million global haul after posting a $5.2 million tally from 38 territories.

The Boxtrolls added $4 million from 11 territories in its second weekend of release overseas. The film has grossed a total of $11 million ahead of its North American debut.

Deliver Us From Evil delivered another $3.9 million from 40 markets. The horror film has grossed a total of $47.9 million overseas and $78.4 million globally.

As Above, So Below grossed $2.8 million from 40 territories to take it overseas cume up to $12.5 million. The horror film has grossed $33 million globally.

Let’s be Cops put up another $1.5 million from 22 markets, bringing its overseas total up to $25 million. The film has grossed over $101 million worldwide.

The Fault in our Stars added another $1.3 million from 10 markets, launching its worldwide total beyond the $300 million mark. The film has grossed a total of $177.2 million outside of North America and $301.2 million globally.

22 Jump Street brought in $1 million from 24 markets to reach a $133.3 million overseas total The film has grossed $324.2 million worldwide.
