Disney Scores its Third Biggest Chinese Debut of All Time with Big 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Bow
on October 12, 2014
Guardians of the Galaxy continues to strike Marvel gold around the world. The film opened to an estimated $26.6 million in China, the third largest ever bow for a Disney film in the market behind Iron Man 3 and Captain America 2. The opening weekend estimate also represents the biggest industry opener of all time in China for an October release. Guardians of the Galaxy has already outgrossed the Chinese totals of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America after only three days of release. IMAX is estimated to have contributed $4 million of the figure from 165 screens, enough for 14% of the opening's market share. Guardians has grossed a total of $361 million overseas and $687 worldwide.
