NORTH AMERICA: 'Inside Out' Leads Thursday with $4.22M; 'Jurassic World' Second with $3.25M; 'Magic Mike XXL' Moves into Third with $2.55M; 'Terminator Genisys' Falls to Fourth with $2.40M

Inside Out grossed $4.22 million on Thursday to lead the daily box office one last day. The critically acclaimed 3D computer animated blockbuster from Disney and Pixar has led the daily box office for nine of the past eleven days, but will obviously fall out of first place today with the launch of Universal's highly anticipated Minions. Inside Out was down 16 percent from Wednesday and down 46 percent from last Thursday, as it (and holdovers in general) clearly took a hit from the Thursday evening launch of Minions. Inside Out was the week's top film with $50.41 million. That was down 39.5 percent from the previous week and brings the film's three-week total to a stronger than expected $266.53 million. Inside Out is running an impressive 17 percent ahead of the $227.14 million three-week take of 2013's Monsters University and 16 percent behind the $318.22 million three-week gross of 2010's Toy Story 3.

Jurassic World continued to claim second place with $3.25 million. The 3D blockbuster sequel from Universal and Legendary also took a clear hit from the Thursday evening launch of Minions, as it fell 13 percent from Wednesday and a sizable 53 percent from last Thursday. Jurassic World placed in second for the week with $45.24 million. The film was down 44.5 percent from the previous frame and has grossed a massive $572.54 million in four weeks of release. Jurassic World is running $40.08 million and 7.5 percent ahead of the $532.46 million four-week take of 2012's Marvel's The Avengers.

Warner's Magic Mike XXL was up one spot from Wednesday to move into third with $2.55 million. The modestly budgeted Channing Tatum led sequel was down a modest 6.5 percent from Wednesday, but still down a sharp 55.5 percent from last Thursday. Magic Mike XXL landed in fourth place for the week with $23.69 million. The film's nine-day total stands at $38.72 million, which places it a disappointing 44 percent behind the $68.90 million nine-day take of 2012's Magic Mike.

Paramount's Terminator Genisys was down one spot to land in fourth with $2.40 million. The pricey Arnold Schwarzenegger led 3D sci-fi action sequel declined 12 percent from Wednesday and a very sharp 63 percent from last Thursday. Terminator Genisys took third place for the week with $39.56 million and has grossed $55.02 million in nine days. The film is running below its already scaled back expectations and a lackluster 31 percent behind the $79.58 million nine-day take of 2009's Terminator Salvation.

Ted 2 rounded out Thursday's top five with $1.43 million. The Seth MacFarlane directed comedy sequel from Universal and MRC was down 20 percent from Wednesday and a sharp 56 percent from last Thursday. Ted 2 placed in fifth this week with $18.69 million. That represented a 60.5 percent decline from the film's opening week performance and places the film's two-week total at a much softer than expected $66.02 million.

In other box office news, Fox's Spy surpassed the $100 million domestic milestone on Thursday. The Melissa McCarthy led comedy placed in seventh for the day with $0.528 million. Spy reached the $100 million milestone in 35 days and has grossed a solid $100.46 million to date.  Spy represents the fourth film featuring McCarthy in a major role to reach the $100 million milestone; the previous three being 2011's Bridesmaids, 2013's Identity Thief and 2013's The Heat.
