NORTH AMERICA: 'The Martian' Remains in First on Tuesday with $3.45M; 'Hotel Transylvania 2' Takes Second with $1.36M; 'Pan' Soft in Third with $1.10M

Fox's The Martian grossed $3.45 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a twelfth straight day. The critically acclaimed Ridley Scott directed 3D sci-fi film starring Matt Damon was down 30 percent from its Columbus Day take on Monday and down a very solid 37 percent from last Tuesday. The Martian continues to impress with a twelve-day take of $117.07 million. The film is currently running 15 percent ahead of the $101.76 million Interstellar had grossed after twelve days of wide release and 12 percent behind the $132.53 million twelve-day take of Gravity.

Sony's Hotel Transylvania 2 held steady in second place with $1.36 million. The Adam Sandler led 3D computer animated film from Sony Pictures Animation fell 64 percent from Columbus Day and down just 27 percent from last Tuesday. Hotel Transylvania 2 has grossed $122.10 million in 19 days, which places the film an impressive 18 percent ahead of the $103.81 million 19-day gross of 2012's Hotel Transylvania.

Pan took in $1.10 million to remain in third place. Warner's pricey 3D adventure fantasy starring Hugh Jackman declined 45 percent from Monday's performance. Pan continues to perform below its already held in check expectations and poorly with its expensive price tag in mind. The film has grossed just $18.42 million in five days, which places it a disappointing 43 percent behind the $32.56 million five-day start of 2011's Real Steel.

Fellow Warner Bros. release The Intern continued to hold up nicely in fourth with $1.02 million. The Nancy Meyers directed comedy starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway was down just 11 percent from Monday and 25 percent from last Tuesday. The Intern has grossed a healthy $51.75 million in 19 days. That places the film 7.5 percent ahead of the $48.16 million 19-day take of 2013's Last Vegas.

Lionsgate's Sicario rounded out the day's unchanged top five with $0.899 million. The critically acclaimed crime thriller starring Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin fell 13 percent from Monday and 31.5 percent from last Tuesday. Sicario has grossed a solid $28.87 million in 26 days and is set to surpass the $30 million domestic mark on Thursday.

Sony's The Walk continued to under-perform in a big way with a seventh place take of just $0.428 million. The critically acclaimed 3D Robert Zemeckis directed film starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt declined 19 percent from Monday. Despite strong critical reviews, The Walk hasn't been able to catch on with moviegoers and has managed to gross only $7.39 million in two weeks of release.
