Fox's The Martian led the way on Monday with $1.22 million. The blockbuster Ridley Scott directed 3D sci-fi film starring Matt Damon fell 70.5 percent from Sunday and a slim 24 percent from last Monday. The Martian has grossed an impressive $167.40 million in 25 days. The film is running 13 percent ahead of the $147.88 million last year's Interstellar grossed after 25 days of wide release and 17 percent behind the $201.15 million 25-day gross of 2013's Gravity.
Disney and DreamWorks' Bridge of Spies placed in second with $0.984 million. The critically acclaimed Steven Spielberg directed thriller starring Tom Hanks was down 66 percent from Sunday and down just 28 percent from last Monday. Bridge of Spies has grossed a promising $33.57 million in eleven days. That places the film 21 percent behind the $42.51 million eleven-day gross of 2004's The Terminal.
The Last Witch Hunter claimed third place with $0.780 million. The Vin Diesel led action film from Lionsgate was down 72 percent from Sunday's performance. The Last Witch Hunter has grossed a lackluster $11.59 million in four days. The film is currently running a disappointing 43 percent behind the $20.43 million four-day start of 2013's Riddick.
Goosebumps followed closely behind in fourth with $0.769 million. Sony's 3D horror comedy starring Jack Black declined 83 percent from Sunday and a very solid 34.5 percent from last Monday. Goosebumps has grossed $44.51 million in eleven days, which places the film 25 percent ahead of the $35.57 million eleven-day take of last year's Ouija.
Universal's Steve Jobs and Paramount's Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension were essentially tied for fifth place on Monday with respective daily grosses of $534,755 and $534,645. The two films were separated by a microscopic $110 for the day. Both films are proving to be significant disappointments, as Steve Jobs has grossed just $10.35 million in 18 days and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension has only managed $8.61 million in four days.
