GLOBAL REPORT: 'Mockingjay Part 2' Crosses $500M Worldwide; 'In The Heart of The Sea' Launches with $17M Overseas

Mockingjay - Part 2 takes the top spot again this weekend at the international BO with $32.4 million from 94 overseas markets. The finale has now past $500 million worldwide with $523.9 million total. 

Spectre released in its final territory Japan this weekend and grabbed $23.0 million from 94 total overseas markets, lifting the international cume to $607.5 million and the worldwide total to $792 million. Japan led the weekend debuting with $3.7 million from 583 screens. Its total is $6.9 million including previews. Top holdover markets include Germany ($3.0M/$60.9M cume), France ($2.3M/$32.8M), UK ($1.9/$139.7M), Australia ($1.6M/$20.9M), and the Netherlands ($1.0M/$17.2M). China, Spectre's second highest-grossing territory with $84.5M, continues its fall from the top, dropping out of the top 10 in just its third weekend of release.

Disney continued its staggered international roll-out for The Good Dinosaur expanding into 6 smaller overseas territories this weekend. The Pixar family film devoured an estimated $19.4 million from 45 total territories, bringing the overseas total to $55.4 million and the global haul to $131.35 million after two weekends of release. Top markets so far include UK/Ireland ($7.8M), Mexico ($6.7M), France ($6.0M), Russia ($3.8M), Italy ($3.7M), Argentina ($3.6M), Spain ($3.6M), and Germany ($2.5M). The Good Dinosaur opens in Australia on December 26.

In the Heart of the Sea launched in 38 overseas markets this weekend ahead of its NA release next Friday, netting $17.1 million on over 8,900 screens. Its debut was 47% higher than Rush and 32% higher than Master and Commander from the same suite of territories. Top openings were South Korea ($2.5M), Russia ($2.0M), Mexico ($1.8M), Italy ($1.6M), Brazil ($1.2M), Thailand ($781K), Taiwan ($582K), Australia ($607K), Spain ($550K), and UAE ($614K). Upcoming releases in France (12.9), UK (12.26), and Japan (1.6.16).

The Martian continued its solid China mission this weekend as the top movie in the market with $13.1 million. Its cume there is now $73.6 million. The film has grossed $350 million overseas and $571.5 million worldwide. 

Bridge of Spies found an additional $10.0 million this weekend from 50 total overseas markets. Spain opened at #3 with $1.6M and France opened in a depressed market with $1.6M as well. The international cume for Steven Spielberg's cold war thriller is now $41.8 million and the global tally is $110.4 million. Italy opens on December 16 and Japan on January 8. 

Victor Frankenstein grossed $5.1 million from 38 markets. Top territories this weekend were Mexico ($845K/$3.4M cume), UK ($660K debut), Russia ($570K/$3.1M cume), Venezuela ($508K/$2.6M cume), and Brazil ($413K/$1.4M cume).

Hotel Transylvania 2 checked in with $2.6 million this weekend from 69 total markets. Australia dropped just 30% in its 2nd weekend to gross $1.1 million for a $3.2 million cume. The animated sequel has grossed $274.1 million overseas and $441.3 million worldwide. 

The Peanuts Movie collected $2.2 million from 1,270 screens in 12 markets this weekend, lifting its early international cume to $13.2 million and its global haul to $134.6 million. Japan debuted with $1.5 million at #2 in the market. More than 50 international markets are still to release.
