GLOBAL REPORT: 'The Force Awakens' Crosses $1.5 Billion in 19 Days

Star Wars: The Force Awakens crossed $1.5 billion globally this weekend after just 19 days of release.

The film's third weekend found $96.3 million overseas, down only 30%, again without the help of China which will open next Saturday, January 9.  The Force Awakens is now the #6 movie of all time worldwide. Within the next few days it will pass Furious 7 ($1.515B) and The Avengers ($1.5196B) to become the #4 movie of all time.

IMAX contributed another $21.0 million on 673 screens worldwide, pushing The Force's global cume to $152 million and making it the format's second highest grossing title ever behind Avatar. China will open next week on 268 IMAX screens.

The film's highest-grossing overseas territory is the UK where it has grossed $145.0 million cume, making it the 2nd biggest industry release of all-time there behind Skyfall.

Other top performing territories include Germany ($81.4M), France ($67.1M), Japan ($52.9M), Australia ($50.7M), Spain ($27.4M), Italy ($24.9M), Mexico ($24.5M), Korea ($23.1M), Russia ($22.9M), Brazil ($21.2M).

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has grossed a total of $770.5 million overseas and $1.511 billion worldwide.

The Peanuts Movie scored $16.8 million from 44 overseas markets this weekend, lifting the international total to $77.1 million. Solid holds from Germany (+19%, $6.0M cume) and the UK (+113%, $10.7M cume). The Peanuts Movie has now earned $205.9 million worldwide.

Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Road Chip drove off with $10.3 from 16 markets this weekend, pushing the international total to $24.3 million. Mexico debuted in first, besting Star Wars with $2.5 million from 1,500 screens. Globally, the Chipmunks have earned $91.7 million.

The Good Dinosaur grossed $9.5 million in its sixth weekend of overseas release from 54 territories. Many markets had strong holds including the UK/Ireland (+97%, $18.5M cume), Germany (+23%, $5.1M cume), Australia (+2%, $5.2M cume), France (-3%, $15.5M cume), Spain (-7%, $8.9M cume). Next weekend sees South Korea and Brazil openings and Japan will bow on March 12. The Good Dinosaur has grossed a total of $129.1 million overseas and $243.8 million worldwide.

Joy took $9.3 million from 28 international markets this weekend. Openings include the UK ($2.4M), France ($1.3M), and Germany ($1.2M). Joy's overseas total l is now $13.1 million and its global tally is $51.8 million.

Daddy's Home opened in 11 new markets this weekend and grossed a total of $9.2 million from 15 total overseas territories, bringing the 2 week international cume is now $21.9 million. Openers include Spain ($0.67M), Peru ($0.5M), Taiwan ($0.45M), and Singapore ($0.32M).

Point Break opened to $1.5 million in Australia and $0.85 million Spain en route to a $6.8 million weekend. The film has grossed $57.8 million overseas and $80.23 million worldwide.

Spectre earned $5.6 million from 53 markets over the weekend, bringing its overseas haul to $667.0 million. Top markets include UK ($145.1M), China ($84.7M), Germany ($70.3M), France ($38.8M), and Australia ($24.9M). Spectre has grossed $864.8 million worldwide.

Bridge of Spies added an addition $4.7 million in 9 markets this weekend, lifting the international cume to $78.2 million. The Steven Spielberg spy thriller has grossed $145.5 million worldwide.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 grossed $4.4 million overseas this weekend, lifting the international total to $361.7 million and $635.9 million globally.

Hotel Transylvania 2 checked in another $2.7 million this weekend from 34 markets. The international tally is now $294.0 million and the film has made $461.8 million worldwide.

The Big Short grossed $2.2 million from 9 overseas markets. The international cume is now $4.4 million and the worldwide total is $37.4 million.
