Tarantino's 'Hateful Eight' To Hit $100M Overseas; Significantly Behind 'Django' & 'Basterds'
on February 26, 2016
The Weinstein Company announced today that Quentin Tarantino's eighth film, The Hateful Eight, is on the verge of crossing the $100 million threshold at the international box office.
Ennis Hensley, TWC President of International Sales & Distribution, commented: "Selling a Tarantino film is a company-defining moment studios never forget and one that we at The Weinstein Company have been lucky to have had with Quentin. Hand selecting our international distributors who can help bring us to the finish line is always a very important process for us. We couldn’t be more proud of the work our partners overseas have done in getting THE HATEFUL EIGHT to as many audiences as possible. With the $100M marker in our sights, it proves that the independent market can still handle films of this caliber and that we are working with some of best in the business."
Top individual market totals:
Switzerland (German): $1.5M
Despite the triumphant announcement by The Weinstein Company, The Hateful Eight currently ranks fifth out of seven Tarantino fillms released overseas (Reservoir Dogs was only released domestically). The Hateful Eight's international box office total is significantly lower than his last two films Django Unchained ($262.6M) and Inglourious Basterds ($200.9M).
