Bollywood star dynasty brings out the kids

Saawariya…meaning Beloved. A much awaited Bollywood movie. Starring for the first-time are Ranbir Kapoor (son of actor Rishi Kapoor) and Sonam Kapoor (daughter of actor-producer Anil Kapoor), also starring are megastars Salman Khan and Rani Mukherji in supporting, but inimitable roles.

Saawariya is the story of two young star-crossed lovers, a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl, whose passion almost takes them to the verge self-ruination. Reports indicate this movie is loosely based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's short story White Nights, which happens in a period of four nights and a morning. “Saawariya is an intense love story” as said by Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whose last three films Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, and Black brought good business and won lots of popular awards, including most prestigious national award.

Introduction of star-kids, this movie offers fresh and very young stars to attract viewers. Furthermore, in this, the audience will also greet the heir (Ranbir Kapoor) of prominent Kapoor dynasty, who has been part of Bollywood since its origin.

Traditionally, Bollywood movies are musical, so movie-music is released earlier to help attract viewers. Soon after the extravaganza music launch, Saawariya’s music is a runaway hit, topping all the popular music charts in the country. So far the production cost has been whopping $10 million, which is a huge budget for any Bollywood movie. An additional $5 million is put down for exorbitant marketing. Massive sets, costumes, melodic music, aggressive promotions, movie-contest, and merchandizing have already generated huge interest among the audience.

With this pre-release popularity, Saawariya opened at South Asian Films Festival in New York on November 7 and will release worldwide two days later, including over 80 theatres in North America. With release-date set right around main Hindu festival and holiday season, it is anticipated that, Saawariya will receive a flying-start at the box-office.
