A pregnant fast-food cashier at the Burger-Matic, Sally (Drew Barrymore) thinks it's bad enough that she's had to break things off with her married lover, only to find out that he's turned up dead in the middle of a field under seemingly bizarre circumstances. Little does she know that she has also runs afoul of the betrayed wife (a wonderfully psychotic Catherine O'Hara) and her somewhat unbalanced sons (Jake Busey and Luke Wilson), who have discovered her identity. One son is sent to infiltrate the Burger-Matic and spy on Sally, but ends up falling in love with her (despite a complete lack of chemistry). The hijinks become increasingly preposterous as the mad matriarch tries to bully her sons into doing away with Sally; though the fate of our saccharine protagonist and her dim paramour incite little more than apathy, delightfully demented performances by Busey and O'Hara save the day. But ultimately, this black comedy isn't quite as twisted and clever as it wants to be.    Starring Drew Barrymore, Luke Wilson, Jake Busey and Catherine O'Hara. Directed by Dean Parisot. Written by Vince Gilligan. Produced by Mark Johnson, Barry Levinson, Lawrence Kasdan and Charles Newirth. A Warner release. Comedy. Rated PG-13 for thematic elements and some sexual humor. Running time: 92 min.
