À la Recherche du Nyuk-Nyuks Perdu

on March 30, 2009 by Steve Simels

By now, we're sure you've heard the news -- previously noted in these pages here -- that The Farrelly Brothers are making a Three Stooges film, with the beloved knuckleheads portrayed by Sean Penn, a bulked up Jim Carrey, and Benicio del Toro.

To which we can only say -- why the hell not? But frankly, we think there's a certain failure of nerve at work here. If the Farrellys -- known if for nothing else than pushing the envelope -- really wanted to make a Three Stooges flick they should have considered non-traditional casting.

By which we mean -- women.

Yes, the new Three Stooges of my dreams wouldn't be Penn, Carrey and del Toro, as no doubt estimable as they will be in the roles.

Instead, I want to see Larry Fine...

played by Bette Midler...

the inimitable Curly Howard...

...given fresh life by Rosie O'Donnell...

...and of course Moe Howard...

...resuscitated by Anjelica Huston.

Okay, why do I have the feeling I'm going to hell?
