The Player on the Other Side

Wow. As you may have heard -- and as was reported elsewhere on this page yesterday -- the adorable Anne Hathaway is set to star in either a stage or film version of the life of the very late Judy Garland, based on Gerald Clarke's slightly salacious 2000 Garland biography Take Your Pill and Go to the Studio.

Uh, okay, actually it's called Get Happy; I regret the error. In any case, Hathaway as Garland strikes me as pretty good casting, and I wish all concerned with the project my best. Still, operating on the I think not unreasonable assumption that anything the Weinstein Company can do, I can do better, I would like to announce that I am currently developing a bio-pic based on the life of Garland's equally fabulous daughter Liza Minelli ...

...and that in a casting coup that's gonna set Tinseltown on its ear, I've signed Deadwood star Ian McShane...

...to star as the hard-working chanteuse.

Working title: Bogota, Bogota.
